Okay if you just want a simple combat game you should get the game alone. I have it and it's perfect. BTW if you have a PS3 add me up! I'm Solid_Gunman.
Now I have the extra gave that ultimate comes with (BF 1943) which is only $15.00.and it is worth it.
The advantage of the Ultimate is that 1943 Is kind of like training for BF BC2 and it really does help!
So if you want practice For BC2 Get Ultimate.
If you want to get right into battle I'd go with normal.
